Description: The Boykin Spaniel is medium in size, sturdy, and a typical spaniel. The Boykin Spaniel is first and foremost a hunting dog with proven retrieving and flushing abilities characterized by boundless intelligence. The Boykin Spaniel shows great desire to please. Weight: Male Boykin Spaniel: 30 - 40 lbs., Female Boykin Spaniel: 25 - 35 lbs.

Colors: Solid, rich, liver (reddish brown or dark chocolate). Allowing small white spot on chest.
Coat: Wavy, curly, waterproof

Temperament: The Boykin Spaniel is friendly with an admirable disposition. The Boykin Spaniel has no hostility towards other dogs or people in normal situations. Excessive timidity or hyperactivity is not seen with the Boykin's character.

Care and Exercise: The Boykin Spaniel needs bi-monthly brushing. Sheds in spring. Daily walking and swimming as the weather permits.

History: Developed by L. Whitaker Boykin of Spartanburg, South Carolina, a small brown spaniel was bred to various spaniels who had similar aptitudes resulting in the formation of the Boykin Spaniel family. A Springer, American Water Spaniel, Pointer and Chesapeake Bay Retriever contribute to the history of the Boykin Spaniel breed.
