Description: Named the Border Terrier because they are from the border between Scotland and England where they originally served farmers as a working terrier and guard dog. The Border Terrier is able to look after themselves, usually with an amiable outlook on life. A no-nonsense little dog, the Border Terrier is game for anything. Unlike other terriers they are not argumentative. Border Terrier is a dog lover's dog.

Care and Training: The Border Terrier wiry coat needs minimal grooming. Clip out knots and brush occasionally with a bristle brush. Trim coat on the head, legs, neck and top of tail. Bathe only when necessary. The Border Terrier needs a good amount of exercise and the opportunity to run as they were bred to hunt and have a large amount of vitality and stamina. Training from an early age as the Border Terrier has a tendency to become destructive and chew things.

History: Once known as the Reedwater Terrier the Border Terrier was originally developed to hunt alongside Foxhounds in the countryside of northeast England. Treasured for their ability to kill foxes and other animals who crept into the farmyard for livestock.
