Description: The Anatolian Shepherd is known for their large, strong frame and courage. Steady and bold, but never aggressive the Anatolian Shepherd should be loyal, independent and hardy. The Anatolian Shepherd at one time was used to hunt wolves but today in the United States they are used as hunting, military and sheepdogs. Similar in looks to the Great Pyrenees, the Anatolian Shepherd has tighter frame and is more agile.

Colors: All colors, but most desired is solid cream to fawn with black mask and ears.
Coat: Short, dense, with a thick undercoat.

With Children: Yes, very loving toward their family children, but other children should be properly introduced.
Special Skills: Sheepdog and protector for cattle herds.

Guard-dog: Very High, they are suspicious of stranger and a guard-dog by nature.

Care and Training: The Anatolian Shepherd needs weekly brushing and daily exercise on a leash or a large area to free run. Mental stimulation to prevent boredom is necessary for the Anatolian Shepherd. Puppies need to be trained early as they are wary of stranger as adults.

Living Environment: The Anatolian Shepherd will happily live indoors, but will do better in an outdoor environment. Not recommended as an apartment dog as the Anatolian Shepherd need a home with a large backyard. The owner of an Anatolian Shepherd needs to be strong and exert dominance over them.
